Question

Mobile Google Assistant commands

I’m pretty sure I already know the answer to this based on the FAQ page but I just wanted to check my understanding because it seems like this is such a failure that it basically renders the entire app unusable.

I can tell my Google Home devices to “play [a playlist]” and it’ll play the playlist as expected. I’m using my “island reggae” playlist as a test here. I say “OK Google, play my island reggae playlist” and the damn thing plays. I issue the same command to Google Assistant on my mobile phone and it somehow fails to find my playlist and instead starts playing an album called “Island Reggae”.

This is such a basic feature that I can’t even believe I’m having to ask this question but why on earth can I not ask the Assistant to play a specific playlist on a mobile device when every other major service seems to be able to handle it..?

Hi @danielvinova

Thanks for the feedback and apologies for the experience. It should be working as normal, so that could be a glitch worth checking it further. Have you tried unlinking the Deezer account, restarting the device and relinking again? Could you also please have a look in the language and location settings? English US settings tend to offer better performance :v_tone2:

Hey @Rudi, thanks for the response.

I have tried unlinking and relinking my account, and have changed the Assistant language to US English. Unfortunately it hasn't changed anything.

According to the help page, not being able to play a specific playlist on a mobile device through the Google Assistant seems to be expected behaviour, I just cannot understand why:

I can say to my Google Home "play my island reggae playlist" and it will play the playlist. I can say to my phone "play my island reggae playlist on the office speaker" and it will play the playlist on that device. However, when I say to my phone "play my island reggae playlist" in the hope that it will play the playlist on my phone it responds by saying the playlist couldn't be found on Deezer (which obviously isn't true).

So could you clarify whether I should or should not be able to play a playlist on a mobile device through Google Assistant? It seems madness to me that such a basic feature wouldn't be implemented.

Hey Daniel @danielvinova

Thanks for pointing this out to us. We need to improve the skill, it seems. It seems that it's lacking this playlist bit. Different from Alexa devices, Google devices can actually play playlists. In your example, it's clear it isn't working the same way as the Google Home. Give me some app versions and device models, please, so that I can pass this on to our devs :thumbsup_tone2:

Hi Rudi,

I have the same issue with my Samsung Galaxy S8 running Android 9 and Deezer v6.2.7.126
