Large battery drain issue in Deezer app on Android 11

Hey team. I’m seeing a large battery draw by the Deezer app on my Android phone. I’m using the latest version of Deezer app. I tried clearing app cache and storage, reinstalling an app, etc. Nothing seems to help. I believe that a power draw became worse after an Android 11 upgrade, but it wasn’t great before neither. My phone is getting noticeably warm when running Deezer app.

Attaching a screenshot for an example. Please note that I’ve only listened to locally downloaded songs in Deezer. Deezer used 18% of battery vs 3% used by Audible over roughly similar listening times (through a bluetooth speaker with both apps). There’s clearly something going on with Deezer power draw.

Device: Pixel 4XL, Android 11

That’s much better now @Myouboku! 🙌🏽

Hey, thank you for your reply, just to make an update about this issue, it seems to be resolved (at least) for me since one of the latest update. With a full day of 7h hours straight of music listening, I get 30% battery drain, it seems a lot lower than before and I'm happy to see that.

Hey @Voicing5244 @Taras_Syniuk @Myouboku

Sorry about it.

Please try to delete the app, restart your phone and after install the latest Deezer app version to check if that stops? 🤔

If it doesn’t solve it, can you please send me the Deezer version installed on your devices and the Android version?🕵🏼

Thank you!

I have the same problem on my Pixel 7. With Tidal or Apple Music this doesn’t happen.

It’s essential for Ukraine now since Russia targets power infrastructure. I am looking at Spotify as a music service for my family.

Is there any updates about this issue ? I experience the same thing since the installation of the app and I mostly listen to Deezer in the background on downloaded playlists/albums. I have a Pixel 7 and I am very surprised how much this app drains compared to others like Spotify, YT Music or Qobuz. Do someone have a solution ?

Is there any updates? The issue is significant for my device.

Is there any update on this issue?
Deezer even drains the battery in the background, only playing downloaded songs.

I use the latest android version on a Pixel 4a 5G

Thanks for reporting this @Monalis@ we'll pass it on. I have the same phone, perhaps you want to remove the app, restart your phone, and reinstall it.

This year we're looking to improve the performance of our apps and player. Stay tuned!

Same problem on iphone 11 pro, 20% battery drain with background activity.

It's something that is on our radar @hpguru we've been considering and investigating the possibility of making a lighter version of Deezer.

Thanks a lot for your contribution!

It seems to be the case on my A40 Samsung phone as well.

For yesterday only 2 h and 30 min Deezer in use and battery drain 20%. My phone seems to drain battery over a night from 100% to 90% without doing anything on it… that’s modern phone?

I bought it 6 months just to get fresh battery and it seems like today is more of the same.

You need to charge it daily when as new every other day.

I don’t do Facebook, Facetime or Twitter. Very limited apps, most preinstalled.

It’s not really all Deezer which drains it, but Sony headphones app as well.

I have 3000 mAh battery and perhaps this is underrated for today’s market?

Are modern smartphones made to be bought every 6 or 12 months?

I hope all app makers, not just Deezer, will work on battery consumption. Thanks.

Thank you very much for your details and the screenshot. I'm forwarding everything to our devs for investigation :v_tone2: stay tuned for app updates!
