Question

Issue with Bluetooth/AVRCP since Android Oreo and/or Deezer App Update

Badge
Hi,

since some weeks I notice a weird beahviour of the Deezer app for Android in conjunction with a bluetooth connection over AVRCP 1.4 to my car handsfree and multimedia unit from Mazda, which is named MZD.

When I hear music from the Deezer app in my car over bluetooth and I get a phone call, the MZD fades out the music and starts the handsfree mode. In the past Deezer paused the music during the phone call and continues it after the call.

But now Deezer jumps immediatly to the next track when I get a call, and continues playing music in the background during the call.

This happens also when I press the button for voice control in my car, and the MZD fades out the music to listen to my command. Deezer jumps to the next track and continues playing music in the background.

Unfortunaltey I've updated Android and the Deezer app at the same time. Therefore I can't say which update caused the issue.

But I guess the MZD sends a pause-command via AVRCP to the mobile phone and the Deezer app understands it as a skip-title-command. That's why I think its a problem of the Deezer app.

I tried it with another music app on my phone and it works as expected (Music paused during and continues after call/command).

I've just updated Android to the latest version 8.1 from January 2018, which contains a lot of patches for bluetooth bugs. But it solved not my issue.

Can someone help me? Thank You.

Hi there, thanks for the feedback! I haven't heard of that issue yet but I'm happy to pass it on to the developers. Can you remember when this problem appeared? With an Android or Deezer update?

Hi Anja,
thank you for your support.

As I wrote above I can't say which update caused the issue. I've updated Android and the Deezer app nearly at the same time.

Ah sorry, I missed that info 🙂 As mentioned I couldn't find a recent case similar to yours, but happy to pass it on. In the meantime please let me know should any update solve the problem 🙂

I've updated my Deezer app to 5.4.16.112 this week, but the problem is not solved in this version 😥

Hi there, Thanks for the update. We weren't able to reproduce the issue. Any chance you could try with another Android device in your car to see if you have the same issue?

I've tested it yesterday with another Nexus 5x with Android Oreo from January 2018 and the newest Deezer app. Same behaviour as with my device.

If I start Google Music instead of Deezer everything works as expectet (Music paused during call/command and continues after it).....but who want's Google Music?
😀

Any idea?

Hi there, I don't really know what could cause the issue. I've already passed it on to the technical team and hope they are able to reproduce the issue and are able to find the cause. If so, I will definitely let you know 🙂

I've installed the Android Oreo Feb. security updates yesterday, but still the same issue. 😢

Hi all. I have a problem with my Huawei Mate 9. When I try to connect my Huawei (with deezer open in it) to my car (Media Nav from Renault) in the screen only shows the "No title" message and I cant change the songs from the screen of the media nav device or from the steering wheel.

I tried to connect it on another car, a VW golf sound system and happens the same. Of course, the cellphone is connected to the systems, because the screen shows the battery level and signal and I can hear the songs, the only problem is that I cant change them.

Please help!

Hi there, I've moved your comment to this existing topic. We've identified some issue with Android and Bluetooth which we are currently working on, meaning there should hopefully very soon be a much better solution for this available with a coming update. I'll keep you posted about any updates we'll have1 🙂

@JasMan I know it's been a while, but our developers have already worked on some Bluetooth issues. Could you let me know if the problem you reported still exists? If so, I'll let them know again, just to make sure we'll fix all related issues. 🙂

@Anja : Sorry, but the issue is still present. But I can't remeber that there was an update in the last weeks!? My Deezer app version is 5.4.17.23

Sorry, my bad. There was a fix mentioned for the latest Beta Release, which is not availabe to all users just yet. But will probably be released very soon. Will update you here, when I have an ETA so that we can check if that one has already solved the issue 🙂
I have had similar Bluetooth issues with Deezer ever since I upgraded my phone to Android 8.0. I have a OnePlus 5 phone and I use a UE Boom 2 Bluetooth speaker.

When I play music everytime it finishes a track and goes on to the next one no more sounds comes out of the speaker. I have found that if I pause the track and then go the next/previous one then sound is back on. It is only back on for that one track though and I have to pause and play next to get it working once again.
Deezer's track timer continues as if the track was playing.
If I don't do anything when the next track doesn't play any sound and leave it running the track after that will have sound on. So I don't do anything it plays every second tracks.

I hope this helps! If you have any questions or anything you want me to try, I'd love to help.
I'll be waiting for the next update and see if the issue is fixed! :-)

Got an update yesterday, but no luck. The problem is still there. I hope this was not the update with the bluetooth fixes so that there's still a little bit of hope for us 🙂

I've installed the March 2018 security updates for Android 8.1 today. No improvement.

Then I've installed an old version of the Deezer app from APKmirror.com. The version was 5.4.11.30. According to the description this version was from Sep. 2017. No improvement.

Therefore I guessed that it is an Android 8.1 related issue which came with the update to 8.1 in December 2017.

And then I remembered that I've an tablet with Android 7.0 (Samsung Galaxy Tab A 2016), which is also connectable via bluetooth to my car. I've connected it and it works as excpected. Deezer paused the music when I start the voice control in my car, and continues playback when voice control mode ends. The tablet has the same Deezer version installed as on my phone, which is currently 5.4.18.30.

Because it was a lazy Sunday, I decided to downgrade my mobile phone from Android 8.1 to 8.0 (security update from Nov 2017). Unfortunately Android forces a factory reset after the downgrade. Not good at all, but good for the test. I had an clean device with no data and apps on it.
I configured the Google PlayStore, installed only Deezer (5.4.18.30), and connected the phone to my car. It works as expected. No problem during voice control or other actions, which causes the car to pause the music.

Then I updated the phone to Android 8.1, still with only the Deezer app installed. Aaaaaaand there was the issue again. Every pause command send from my car during voice control activation caused Deezer to jump to the next track.

So it's definitely an Android 8.1 issue in combination with the Deezer app. Hope this will help to find the bug.

I've exact the same problem with my new Mate 10 pro (Oreo 8.0) and Hyundai Cars from 2016 and 2018.

Android 7 Devices (S7 Edge, Moto G5s) are working as expected.

Hi there, we are aware of some problems with cars and our developers are working on it. There should be a fix very soon. We kindly ask for some patience and will update you once we have news 😉
Yesterday i started a new try. I deleted all devices on my car navigation (LG) and on my Mate 10 pro. I also cleared the cache of the bluetooth system app. After that I restarted my smartphone and paired the devices again.

...what should I say...everything works now (reproducible)! On my car navigation I can see infos about artist and title. skip titles via navi or steering sheel is also working without problems.

During troubleshooting I leaved the deezer app untouched.

Hey,
has the fix been already released or are we still waiting for it? Because I'm still having the problem.
Thank you.

@Shannon: No, I haven't Android Auto. It's a AVRCP connection only.
What about the update which should fix some known bluetooth issues? Has this already been released?

Hi there, we've poked the tech team again to see if there's any progress. We were able to fix some issue with Android and Bluetooth, but I have no details about this issue so far.
