Deezer Android Widget Stops Working

If I remove and re-add the widget, it'll usually work correctly for a short amount of time. However, it always eventually does this:

Once this happens, the widget becomes completely unresponsive. Tapping it does not open the app, the gear in the corner does nothing, and it does not display what is playing if I open the app via the app drawer and start playing music. The only thing I can do is remove the widget and put it back again.

Hey @bj61251

Thanks a lot for reporting this. What version of our app have you got installed and what's your Android version?

Let me know and I can ping our devs about this. In the meantime, have you also tried reinstalling the app after restarting your device?

Yep, feel free to forward to whoever can look into the issue. I'm on an up to date build of Android 11 on a Pixel 2XL, Deezer app version 6.2.14.116. I'm quite certain that I've tried reinstalling, but I'll give it another try on the current version.

Thanks for that @bj61251 yes, I'll pass it on but please keep us posted :thumbsup_tone2:

I reinstalled the app, and the widget was good for a couple of days. However (and it very well could be related), I just casted my Flow to my Google home speaker group, and the widget is now just an empty box:

If I click on it, it still opens the app, but this usually is what happens prior to it breaking completely.

And now today the widget is back to how it looked in my first screen shot: gear in the corner, Deezer icon in the center, and does nothing when I click on it.

Thanks for explaining in detail @bj61251

Very similar to what @stepal been through as well!

Please keep us posted while I mention this to our devs :thumbsup_tone2:

I too am having widget issues. In my case, I add the widget, use it to play or access the app and while playing music, the widget disappears.

Versions: Android = 11, build RQ1A.201205.003

Deezer Beta app = 6.2.18.1

Let me know what additional information or testing would be helpful.

Just jumping back in here to say that this is still happening, but now if I click on the broken widget, I get this:

If I click on Search, it opens the Google Play Store to the Deezer app page, where clearly the app *is* still installed.

Greetings,

The widget is now working for me.

Thanks for the update,

Amy

Thanks for sharing with us @AmelahS

Hey @bj61251 please have a look! :relaxed:

No change for me; I uninstalled/reinstalled the app and re-added the widget. Just started playing music and casted to my Google home speaker group, and it already is partially broken (widget is just blank) :

I really suspect that this has something to do with casting the audio to other devices, which is 95% of how I use the app.

I was just going to ask you the same @bj61251 is this only happening when casting? It could be the root cause. Let me know if the widget is fine when simply using the app.

Userlevel 1

I reinstalled the app and re-added the widget, and have just let my phone play music without casting to Google Home, and so far the widget is working fine. I can't say for sure if it's 100% OK, since it didn't always break instantly, but it's promising.

Like I said, I almost always cast to my Google speaker group, so I could be remembering incorrectly as well.

Userlevel 1

Yeah, after letting the app play from my phone for hours, the widget never broke. Almost immediately after I cast audio to my Google home speaker group, the widget has gone blank again. It's definitely an issue with casting the audio.

Brilliant! @bj61251 You narrowed it down for us, that's great feedback!

I'll be forwarding this now. Hopefully something we can sort in our next releases :pray_tone2:
