Deezer Android app sometimes closes in background

Hello,

I use Deezer Android app on my phone, connected to the car audio system. Usually it works just fine but sometimes app closes in background and music doesnt resume when i start the car. This also happens sometimes when i recieve a call, music doesnt resume when i end the call.
I added Deezer App to the exceptions in power saving settings but didnt solve the problem.

Im using a Samsung Galaxy S8 but had the same problems on a HTC 10 and Galaxy S7

No, its not the same problem although i experienced that problem on HTC.

My problem is that music doesnt resume when i start the car because Deezer closes while in background. Im guessing its either a power or memory saving issue.

That is indeed a problem of the memory in your phone. Or has this worked before with no issues?

No, it never worked as it should.
I was hoping maybe there is a setting in android to ignore apps and never close them in background?

Please, check if there is any antivirus/cleaning app installed on your phone. Some examples of this type of program are: - 360 Security / Safety - Clean Master “or - Smart Manager If so, please disable it. These programs are found within the “Settings” on your phone. All of these features and applications sometimes cause problems with AutoPlay of audios apps.

If that’s not the issue. Trying changing the configurations for Deezer notifications on your phone.

For that:

- go to your phone settings
- click on Deezer
- click on notifications
- disable the notifications

If the issue still persists, try the following steps, exactly in this order:

- uninstall Deezer
- clean your phone's cache
- remove the SD card
- restart your phone
- reinstall Deezer
- open Deezer and download at least one album or playlist
- reinsert the SD card

That should do the trick, but If doesn't work please let me know! 😉

I'm in discussion with support on this issue which I can replicate on several android devices, yet the app developers can't. There are a few similar threads on this issue with the Android app.


If you use Google pay, can you also confirm if you find this causes Deezer to immediately close?

Hi there, I haven't really heard of this issue in the past. So does the app close in the background or does only the music stop? Or does the app stop, but it's still open in the background?

And does this only happy when connected to the car or does the app randomly crash?

Hi again, above in this topic is only one user reporting an issues. Everyone else posted to help. Also that user mentioned that the app stops in the background, but he did not talk about the app randomly crashing. We are happy to look into your issue, but everything you're reporting on different topics and via email is very confusing. You said it shuts down when you connect/ disconnect with Bluetooth, then you said it happens randomly on all you devices and you also mentioned that it crashed when you're doing something on the playstore.

I still don't fully understand what your issue is and when it occurs. So does the app crash or does the music only stop when the app runs in the background while the app is still open?
And does it show the exact same behaviour, no matter if connected to bluetooth, PlayStore or if you're doing nothing with the phone? Or are there different issues?

The issue has always been the same, and has been reported by several other people

So I'm happily listening to Deezer (flow) on my car radio via Bluetooth.

I get out and when I come back the app had closed in the background so I need to reopen it and restart flow.


Google play store keeps getting mentioned by Deezer support, but this isn't the issue.

If I use my phone to pay for something via contactless/NFC payment instead of my card Google PAY) Deezer will immediately close EVERYTIME.

I'm unsure how this issue has become confusing.

If you use an Android device (I know everyone uses apple these days) for a few days you will easily see the issue myself and others are reporting.


This along with the lack of explicit content control is really affecting my enjoyment of Deezer - which I'm a premium user.

So regarding the Bluetooth connection: "So I'm happily listening to Deezer (flow) on my car radio via Bluetooth.

I get out and when I come back the app had closed in the background so I need to reopen it and restart flow. "

When you leave the car, you take the phone with you and that automatically cuts the bluetooth connection and then the Deezer app crashes immediately?
And you therefore need to restart Deezer, no matter if you want to reconnect with the car or not?

Regarding the Google Pay crash: I haven't heard of that issue and as you can see on the topic you created
So here the app also crashed when you pay contactless with your phone or does the app just stop the music but is still open?

In the second case, I'm happy to pass this on to the tech team. But if it crashes and there are no other reports, it must be an issue with your phone I'm afraid.

The bluetooth doesn't close Deezer immediately. It can remain open for minute or a few hours, but typically closes in the background at some point meaning I have to re-open Deezer and restart flow

So again, an Android issue which Deezer need to raise with Google?

I can replicate this on several android phones, and accounts so this is an Issue the tech team need to look into. As I say this is probably another Android issue that they will need to log on the Android issues tracker - I can't do this as an Android end user. It's likely that both Deezer and Play services (play services runs almost everything on an Android device) are for some unknown reason fighting over the same core Android partand naturally the OS is winning.



If you give a few of the tech team an Oreo Android device for a week instead of their iOS device, they'll easily see these issues almost immediately 😉

@NX1977 I'm happy to pass your report about the bluetooth issue on to the team, but as you mentioned, it might be an Android issue, if user have the same issue with other apps. But I'll let you know, should I get an update from our team :)

The background closing others have noticed this happening on various devices, so it's not just me or my devices.

I don't have any other apps closing on their own - just Deezer.

Ref the pay issue, it could be no one else has yet linked it to the background closing of the app.

But it definitely happens, as had the logo for the Deezer app on my notification bar, paid in a shop and the Deezer icon disappeared as soon as the pay confirmation screen appeared. This happens EVERYTIME.

As this is likely play services, there are almost certainly other triggers which will also cause this to happen (could be getting a text in the default SMS app, an android system notification etc etc) - but I haven't noticed any others yet which also cause Deezer to close.

Maybe play services/doze issue? (Android team will know)


As Spotify also seem to have this issue of background closing on android my hunch is an android issue which will only get fixed when reported by developers - for some reason Google won't take bug reports from end users (they always refer back to the app vendor), otherwise I would report.

Again no other apps close when using Google Pay - just Deezer. Everything else stays running unless I close it.

Really funny to read Anja, for the same problem, she haven't heard of it.
Same thing here. Deezer shuts down, when doing nothing but listening music to switching/opening another app.

+1 on the bluetooth issue. I step out of the car for groceries and 30 min later when coming back, app is not running anymore and I can't resume music. Its annoying to the point that sometimes, I just push fm instead of bringing the app back up ( I really wish it was not like this).

I've completely lost faith in this issue ever being fixed.

Once my subscription ends in October I will have to seriously consider whether I'm carrying on with Deezer as the app is just too buggy

Hi again, I understand that this is frustrating, but we weren't able to reproduce the issue on our side. Have you tried the general Motorola troubleshooting?

Otherwise if it's only Deezer that shuts down it might be the app that was downloaded and is faulty. Would you mind reseting your Sd card (if you're using one), delete Deezer again (completely) and restart the phone. Afterwards download Deezer again.

We've already done app deletes, reinstalls and the issue remains.

It's happened on 4 separate devices, so isn't a device issue.

It's also reported in the beta thread, and in several comments in the Google play store so again this isn't an issue unique to me.

Run the app on any android device for a week in the real world, use Google pay for Contactless payments and connect to a Bluetooth car kit and run flow.

It happens so consistently, I'll be amazed if you haven't seen the issue at least once after a week.

It happens to me several times a day!
